Provenance: in ink on front endpaper, inscriptions: 'Miss Sparke with Lady Rumbold's [?] kindest love - January 1843' 'This was given to [illegible] Pratt by Henry E. Sparke Upcher - Sheringham 1940. Miss Sparke was his grandmother + my Great-Aunt's sister, Hester Sparke, who married Col. Henry Pratt of Ryston 17th Lancers. Both were daughters of the Bishop of Ely-'. Binding: nineteenth-century diagonal rib grain peach cloth over boards (very faded) blind embossed borders and decoration, gilt lettering on upper boards. Yellow endpapers.

Acquired by the National Trust in 1986 with the aid of bequests from E.L. Elliot, H. Ridler, D.E. Swiffen and Alice M. Weeks, grant-aid from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, the Countryside Commission and funds raised by the East Anglian Coast & Countryside Appeal, and an endowment from Mildred Cordeaux, a cousin of Thomas Upcher.
