Catalogue of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742), records Antiquitates Britanno-Belgicæ as comprising 4 vols. Uniformly bound and intended as a complete set. Shelved separately by Miss O'Sullivan's catalogue in the 1940s. Vol. 1 wants plate XIII and signature 2A misbound. Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Binding: eighteenth-century sprinkled brown calf inboard binding with double gilt fillet and blind palmette border. Blind roll pattern on board edges. Five raised bands; gilt tooled spine with gilt title on brown goatskin label. Endbands with red and cream thread. Pastedown with conjugate endleaf and additional endleaves at both ends. Red sprinkled edges.
