At his decease it devolved to his relict Susan Richards and on her death … it came by legacy into the possession of their son, the eldest then surviving, George Pierce Richards MA … Rector of Sampford Courtenay Devon … May 6, 1837" Inscribed beneath: "This book was given by Ridley, Courtenay, & Rachel Theobald, grandchildren of George Pierce Richards, to their nephew Roger, Earl of Stamford, in July 1838." Binding: late eighteenth or early nineteenth-century green morocco; gilt tooled borders, spine, board edges, and turn-ins, six false double bands; gilt tooled spine: Thomson's Seasons. All edges gilt.
