From the Earl of Beaconsfield's library" [i.e. Sir Samuel Wilson (1832-1895), tenant of Hughenden Manor, 1881-88]. Formerly owned by Isacc D'Israeli and listed in the manuscript catalogue of Bradenham Manor. Manuscript note in ink at head of half-title in vol.1, identifying the translator as Jean de Sales. Binding: eighteenth-century French mottled calf; marbled endpapers; gilt decoration on spine (heavily rubbed); red morocco labels on spine.
