Ephemera: inserted as bookmark between pp. 24-25 in vol. 1 part of torn envelope with partial address "...Hobart Esq: ... [R]ichmond ... Surry" [i.e. Hobart Hall in Richmond, Surrey, from 1757 the Thames-side home of Elizabeth Hobart (d. 1762) dowager Countess of Buckinghamshire, and later the home of her son Henry Hobart (1738-1799)]. Provenance: the author Abraham de Wicquefort (1606-1682). Hendrik Emilius van Hoornbeek (fl. 1698-1741), Pensionary of Delft. Jacques Basnage (1653-1723), French historian of the Dutch Republic. Charles Levier (d. 1734), bookseller in The Hague. Bought by Robert Trevor (1706-1783), secretary of the British embassy at The Hague, on behalf of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Binding: in two bound volumes, both have eighteenth-century limp comb and swirl pattern marbled paper wrapper sewn on four supports; untrimmed edges. Bindings resewn and repaired; paper repairs. Book conservator's typescript note attached to rear pastedown in both vols.: "Wicquefort, History of the Dutch Republic, vol. I. Condition on arrival: the sewing was broken in several places, the paper was stained and the cover badly worn. ... [treatment report] ... N.W.M. Pickwoad November 1980" and "Wicquefort, History of the Dutch Republic, vol. II. Condition on arrival: sewing broken down, cover torn, with spine partially defective. ... [treatment report] ... N.W.M. Pickwoad November 1980". With modern folder containing loose leaf notes. In modern brown buckram book box.
