Library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Inscription on front pastedown: "Vol: 54". Pencil number, probably twentieth-century, at head of first front fly-leaf: "B 19". Binding: eighteenth-century full calf; sewn on six supports; gilt armorial centrepiece stamp of the coat of arms of Henri-Auguste de Loménie, comte de Brienne (1595-1666); gilt spine with stamp (vases of flowers and other floral motifs), roll and fillet decoration; gilt title lettered directly onto spine: 'Traictez entre France et Escossois' and 'Privileg des Escossois'; textblock edges stained red. Printed waste just visible underneath pastedowns, includes musical notation. Rebacked in goatskin and calf with original spine laid-on. Pencil inscription in the hand of Cecil Clarabut (the National Trust's first Libraries Adviser) on front pastedown: "Repaired at Cambridge, 1955".
