Provenance: Nineteenth-century armorial bookplate (not in Franks): 'Thomas Baring'. Twentieth-century armorial bookplate (small variant), signed Badeley 1930: ‘Urban Huttleston Rogers Lord Fairhaven’ [i.e.: Huttleston Rogers Broughton, 1st Lord Fairhaven (1896-1966)]. Historic shelfmark in pencil on bookplate of Thomas Baring in vol. 1: "L 1". Binding: Late eighteenth-century full calf, Etruscan-style: central tree calf panels with gilt rolled Greek key border; blind tooled inner border and gilt rolled outer border; sewn onto five raised bands; gilt tooled spines; black morocco spine labels, gilt lettered: 'Gay's fables' and 'Vol. I[-II].'; single gilt fillet on board edges; gilt rolled turn-ins; gilt textblock edges; marbled endpapers; green ribbon marker in each vol.
