Bibliographic description
2 v. : ill. ; 4to. Running number: 7851. Shelved with vols. 1-5 (The Hague and Amsterdam, 1719-26) and 6-7 (Amsterdam, 1733). Provenance: manuscript inscription on vol. 1 front fly-leaf: "M. 2. vol." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript verse in Latin on paper slip pasted onto verso of second front fly-leaf (facing title page) of pt. 1, probably in the hand of the author Michael Maittaire (1667-1747) who was a friend of Sir Richard Ellys: "Chare Eques, Indiculum (munus leve) mitto librorum: Est index animi sed magis ille mei. Quid prodest Librorum Index tibi? Sufficit Index Unus Opum, tua quas Bibliotheca capit". Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn on five supports; five raised bands; gilt roll pattern along board edges; gold-tooled spines; gilt title on brown leather label and gilt vol. number on spines; red and brown sprinkled edges. Both vols. water-damaged with staining on boards.
