Sir John Gonson's five charges to several grand juries, viz. I. To the grand jury of the city and liberty of Westminster, &c. at the General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, held the twenty fourth day of April, 1728. II. To the grand jury of the said city and liberty, at the General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, held the eleventh day of July, 1728. III. To the grand jury of the royalty of the Tower of London, and the liberties and precincts thereof, at the General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, held for the said royalty, the sixteenth day of July, 1728. IV. To the grand jury of the city and liberty of Westminster, &c. at the General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, held the ninth day of October, 1728. V. To the grand jury of the said city and liberty, at the General Quarter-Sessions of the Peace, held the third day of July, 1729. [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: eighteenth-century original brocade paper (Brokatpapier) wrappers, embossed with gilt pattern over pink paper; pattern consists of floral and foliate design with birds and various figures in exotic dress among the foliage, including a man riding an elephant, a man riding a horse, and musicians; stab-stitched; spine largely disintegrated, only a few small fragments left; all edges gilt. Stored in folding wrapper with brown cloth over boards.
