Provenance: manuscript inscription and capital letter on front fly-leaf: "Ryalton" and "D" [i.e. probably either Francis Godolphin, 2nd Earl of Godolphin (1678-1766) or his son William Godolphin, Marquess of Blandford (1700-1731), both of whom held the courtesy title of Viscount Rialton. A number of their books are present in the library at Blickling Hall]. Binding: eighteenth-century full sprinkled calf; sewn on three sewing supports; five raised bands; single gilt fillet border; blind roll pattern along board edges; gilt fillet decoration on spine; gilt title 'American Library' on brown leather label on spine; red and brown sprinkled textblock edges.
