Provenance: 19C ms. on front pastedowns of vols. 2, 4, 6: Fre lane Birch Wretham; Black ink stamp: The National Trust founded 1895. Binding: Nineteenth-century half sheep and marbled paper over boards on three recessed cords, gilt spine tooling, red and olive-green spine labels, blind roll tool at edges of leather on covers, brown sprinkled edges. Vols. 1 and 3 rebound in 20C quarter dark brown goat with new endpapers; the signatures from the original front flyleaves have been pasted onto the back pastedowns. Spine title on all vols: Thiers’ consulate and empire. Vol. 6 lower board detached.
