Binding: late nineteenth-century (after 1880) polished tan calf over boards, spine with five raised bands, gilt in compartments with central flower device and foliate corner pieces, direct-lettered gilt, covers with triple gilt fillet and circular corner-pieces, double fillet on board-edges, floral rolls to turn-ins, smooth blue endpapers, stamp to verso of front free endpaper: Bound by Riviere & Son [i.e. after 1880]; fine-ribbed red cloth covers and spine decorated blind and gold (from publisher's original case-binding) preserved, pasted onto terminal blanks.
