Bought by Sir Richard Ellys for 14 livres according to his priced copy of the sale catalogue. Manuscript inscription on vol. 1 front fly-leaf: "M. 3. vol." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript shelfmark in pencil on front fly-leaf in each vol.: "12:H:31-33". Manuscript number (Hoym sale price?) in red pencil on vol. 1 rear fly-leaf: "14w[?]" [i.e. 14 livres?]. Binding: French, eighteenth-century full calf; sewn onto five raised bands; double and single gilt fillet border with small star-shaped cornerpiece stamps; gilt coat of arms of Karl Heinrich, Graf von Hoym (1694-1736) on covers (Boyet and Du Seuil were his binders); gilt roll pattern along board edges and on turn-ins; gold-tooled spines, with stamps in fillet and roll panels; gilt title and vol. number on brown goatskin labels on spines. Red burnished textblock edges. Comb pattern marbled endpapers.
