Water staining on covers and at foot of leaves throughout; some mildew and mould staining (e.g. covers, leaves D2v-E1r, L2v-M1r, Rr1v through to rear endpapers); insect damage (silverfish) on front endpapers through to leaf C1, leaves P1-Q1, X1-Y1 and Oo2-Pp1. Provenance: manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "M. 2 plates" [i.e. catalogue code and count of plates, written by John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Binding: eighteenth-century full red morocco (water and mould stained at foot); sewn on six raised bands; double and single gilt fillet border with small cornerpiece stamps; gilt centrepiece stamp of the arms of Louis XIV; gilt roll pattern along board edges and turn-ins; gold-tooled spine; gilt title lettered directly onto spine. Gilt textblock edges. Marbled endpapers.
