Vol. 1. Provenance: eighteenth-century Jacobean armorial bookplate (Franks 25940), lettered: The Revd: Mr Pat. St. Clair (with motto "Entend toy") [i.e. Patrick St Clair (1659-1755). In 1692 he was appointed Ashe Windham's tutor, accompanied him on his Grand Tour, and on their return in 1696 he was presented to the living of Aylmerton]. Eighteenth-century Jacobean armorial bookplate (Franks 32206), lettered: William Windham Esquire [i.e. William Windham (1717-1761)]. Manuscript inscription on half-title: "The Right Honble. My Lord Lovell made a present of this book to Mr Patrick Stclair Rect[o]r of Ailmerton in Norff, and the said Mr Stclair made a present of it to William Windham son to Ash Windham Esqr of Felbrigg. Ao. D. 1736" [i.e. given by the publisher of this book Thomas Coke (1697-1759), Baron Lovel of Minster Lovel, later 1st Earl of Leicester of Holkham Hall, to Patrick St Clair and given by him in turn to William Windham (1717-1761)].
