Provenance: manuscript inscription on front pastedown: "C. & P.", with additional letters faintly added to read "Coll & Perf" [i.e. the "collated and perfect" mark of the bibliophile Thomas Rawlinson (1681-1725)]. Binding: seventeenth-century full vellum over boards; sewn onto five cords; single gilt fillet border with small gilt cinquefoil cornerpiece stamps; fore-edges of covers folded-over; evidence of two pairs of ties (missing) at fore-edge of boards; gold-tooled spine, with fillet and stamp decoration and place/date of publication lettered directly onto spine; gilt title on brown goatskin label on spine; faint manuscript title mat head of spine. Gilt textblock edges.
