Summary
Bibliographic description
Nouvelle édition, ornée de jolies gravures.. 240p., plates;. 12mo, 120mm x 64mm. Former shelfmarks: Oak Bedroom [...] VIII 1; PAM/25/3 The decorated paper covers are made from recycled printer's waste. The torn front cover is a piece of printer's waste from the titlepage of the 1784 Amsterdam printing of Louis Damours' 'Lettres de Miladi *** sur l'influence pourroient avoir dans l'éducation des hommes'. The rear cover is a piece of printer's waste form a titlepage dated 1788 bearing the Paris printer Duchesne's monogram. The partial imprint reads '[Lon]dres: [chez Thomas H]ookham, Libraire, [New-Bond-Street] No.147 [Et à] Paris, [chez D]uchesne & Fils'. Hookham and Duchesne collaborated on a series of publications between 1783 and 1787, mostly novels, printed in Paris. There is only one item recorded on ESTC issued collaboratively by the two printers in 1788, volumes 4-6 of Duplessis's 'Mémoires de Sir George Wollap', and the imprint does not match that on the waste fragment. Provenance: No marks of provenance. Binding: Eighteenth-century full decorated French paper, made from recycled printer's waste; top half of front cover torn and wanting.
