Summary
Wooden box with hinged lid. Bottom missing. Swing brass handles either side. Brass lock, key missing. Metal plate on top of lid. A white stencil on the front of the box shows a coronet and the letter: W. Partially faded paper labels on the top read: GWR / INSURED. Remnants of two black wax seals on the front along with a broken nailed fabric seal across the lid opening. Inside is covered in green felt and split into four compartments by means of three wooden felt covered vertical dividers. The inside of the lid is lined with packing material, possibly horsehair, fixed to felt covered card all of which has now greatly deteriorated. On the top edge inside the box is the name and address: D. (and) J. WELLBY LTD / GARRICK ST, LONDON..
