Count Loménie de Brienne's library was sold in London in 1724, where Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) undoubtedly purchased it. Small label on front pastedown: 'V' [printed in red] "21" [in manuscript black ink]. These inventory or shelfmark labels appear in books owned by Louis-Henri de Loménie, comte de Brienne. Manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]; with Mitchell's manuscript code at foot of leaf: "ιδ'." [i.e. iota delta' = Greek number 14]. Manuscript code on rear pastedown: "cy/e". Binding: seventeenth-century mottled calf; gilt armorial centrepiece stamp (with mermaid crest and within wreath): arms of Louis-Henri de Lomenie, comte de Brienne (1635-1698); gilt cipher monogram of the comte de Brienne as cornerpieces; gilt spine, with repeated cipher monogram of the comte de Brienne, fillets, and title lettered directly onto spine. Red and blue sprinkled edges.
