Manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]; with Mitchell's manuscript code at foot of leaf: "ς'." [i.e. stigma' = Greek number 6]. Manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "2da Scaliger. p. 153 / plutologi[?]". Manuscript price on verso of title page: "5lt" [i.e. 5 livres tournois]. Binding: seventeenth-century armorial calf; sewn on five supports; rubbed, missing in parts on upper board, small repairs in calf on lower board; gilt double fillet border. Armorial centrepiece: arms vaire, on a chief a lion passant; crest on a closed helm a demi talbot vaire, mantling; supporters two talbots vaire; motto "Membra non animum tegunt" [i.e. arms of Nicolas Hennequin (b. 1597)] -- cf. St John's College, Cambridge, copy of Aubigné's "Histoire universelle du Sieur d'Aubigné" (Amsterdam, 1626), which has the same arms. Spine divided into six panels (panel at head of spine missing), with miniature arms of Hennequin within fillets on four panels, and gold-stamped title. Red sprinkled edges.
