Copious manuscript notes (mathematical problems and equations) in pencil, nineteenth-century? hand, with manuscript contents list on endpapers. Provenance: ‘booklabel’ (apparently cut out of envelope, as still bears part of penny red? stamp): J.J. Fox, Esq., 4, Church Row, Stoke Newington [i.e. the surgeon Joseph John Fox (1821-1897)]. Pencil inscription on front free endpaper: ‘J.J. Fox ex libris E.C. Allen ... 1862.’ [probably a relative of his wife, who was born Sarah Angell Allen]. Pencil inscription on front pastedown: ‘Lent to R.F. Fox 1901’ [i.e. Fox's son, Robert Fortescue Fox (1858-1940)]. Donated by Kate Hargreaves (great great granddaughter of J.J. Fox), September 2012. Binding: contemporary sprinkled calf, 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered on red spine label: Motte’s Newton.
