Summary
Bibliographic description
xxiv, [96], 75, [1] p., [2] leaves of plates (1 double plate) : ill. ; 8vo. Running number: 4796. Imperfect: wanting list of subscribers (gathering chi2). Provenance: manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript gift inscription on front fly-leaf: "Non mutamur in illis. [signed] M Maittaire. Dono dedit idem" [i.e. the editor Michael Maittaire (1667-1747), Huguenot bibliographer, and given by him to Sir Richard Ellys. Maittaire was a close friend of Ellys, and presumably, given the lack of the list of subscribers, this copy was one of the eight non-subscription copies that Maittaire reserved for himself]. Binding: eighteenth-century mottled calf; double gilt fillet border; gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine, with gilt title on brown leather label. Red sprinkled edges.
