Summary
Bibliographic description
[64], 462, [206] p. : ill. ; 8vo. Running number: 4771. Imperfect: wanting additional engraved title page. On pp. 133, 194 and 205, alternative engravings have been tipped in over the original ones. Pencil note on front pastedown: "p. 276 intact, additional plate at p. 133"; the illustration on p. 276 shows a bawdy scene depicting various sexual acts, presumably it has been removed or otherwise censored in some other copies. Provenance: manuscript initial on front fly-leaf: "M." [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Marginal markings in pencil throughout. Binding: seventeenth-century mottled calf; blind roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled floral design on spine made from individual stamps, and gilt title lettered directly onto spine. Marbled edges (faded).
