Provenance: Price in pencil on inside front cover of vol. 14: `1/-' and inside vol. 23: `37 vols. 1792-1830 wanting 1796-1800 & 1810 £4'. Vol. 23 has inscriptions in ink: `Mary Whitby the gift of her beloved Mamma' on inside front cover and, facing, on flyleaf: `I have always promis'd this Work to my dear Julia from her childhood - I now send it to her - and at my decease it ... [?] her son. Mary Wise. Ford'. Most other vols. have signatures of M. Whitby and/or `Mary Wise 1811' [i.e. Mary Wise, née Whitby, wife of Ayshford Wise (1786-1847), M.P. for Totnes, who leased Ford House, Newton Abbot, from 1820]. Binding: Bound in boards, with red leather spine and corners, and marbled paper over boards, gold lettering on spines.
