Stabbing holes for previous binding visible in first gathering. Provenance: Eighteenth-century armorial book plate, lettered: "coelum non animum" "Earl Waldegrave". Half pasted over is a nineteenth-century book plate, lettered: "Calke Abbey Library" [associated with George Crewe, 8th Baronet (1795-1844) and John Harpur Crewe, 9th Baronet (1824-1886)]. Binding: Eighteenth-century mottled calf, triple gilt fillet forming a border, gilt cornerpieces, gilt armorial centre piece (Earls Waldegrave). Gilt gauffered edges. Marbled endpapers, marbled edges. Gilt tooling on spine, five raised bands.
