[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript inscription on front pastedown: "C. & P./" [i.e. "collated and perfect" mark of the bibliophile Thomas Rawlinson (1681-1725)]. Two manuscript inscriptions on front fly-leaf, one in Greek, the other reads: "V.Cmus & ornatissmus D.D. Hen: Aldrich aed. Xti. Oxon: decanus, pro solita & eximiâ suâ humanitati strenae[?] loco, dedit A.D. 1701 Ph: Fowke - M.D.-" [i.e. Henry Aldrich (1647-1710), the bibliophile Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and Phineas Fowke (1638-1710), physician who graduated from Cambridge in 1668]. Manuscript marginal notes. Binding: eighteenth-century Cambridge-style panelled calf; gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine, with gilt title on red morocoo label. Red and brown sprinkled edges.
