Provenance: Chippendale style armorial bookplate "Walter Strickland Esqr" [probably Walter Strickland (1729-1761), therefore presumably inserted by a later member of the Strickland family]. Presentation inscription on front free endpaper: 'Mr Saltmarsh understanding that the Miss Lawsons have adopted his favourite study of heraldry, takes the liberty of recommending this book, with his best compliments, as very useful." [probably presented to Anastasia Maria Lawson (1769-1807) of Brough Hall (who married Thomas Strickland (1763-1813) of Sizergh in 1789) and her sister Elizabeth Lawson (later Wright, d.1812) ]. Binding: eighteenth-century full calf, all edges sprinkled red, 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered on red label 'Heylyns Help to history'
