Provenance: manuscript inscription on verso of final leaf of part 3 in a seventeenth-century hand: Tho: Thyn [i.e. Thomas Thynne, possibly Thomas Thynne of Longleat (1648-1682) or Sir Thomas Thynne, first Viscount Weymouth (1640-1714)]. Armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754): Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: seventeenth-century sprinkled polished calf over boards on four raised cords, gilt spine tooling, eighteenth-century red spine label, double blind fillet and small floral cornerpieces on covers, blind roll on board edges, red sprinkled edges.
