2 v. : port. ; fol. Ephemera: slip of scrap nineteenth-century printed paper inserted between vol. 1, pp. 286-7 as a bookmark. Vol. 2 front pastedown has an old glue stain where a bookplate may once have been [Earl’s plate?]. Vol. 2 has: small glass bottom stains on covers (one on front; two on back); candle wax dropping on pp. 169-70, 804-5. Provenance: armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754) in vol. 1 only: Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: seventeenth-century polished, sprinkled sheep over boards on six raised cords, gilt spine tooling, late eighteenth-century red and olive-green spine labels, red and brown sprinkled edges.
