Summary
Ornately decorated Indian festival decoration, in three separate sections. The top section appears to be made of plant stems or rushes, fashioned into a round piece and bowed. They are covered in wine velvet with a painted gold design with gold beads and sequins attached. Suspended at either end is a bell-shaped pompom, and a disc, that also appear at the bottom. All three pompoms are present, the top being in red foil, with green at the base with a gold beaded design, and there is gold tinsel around the centre except the middle one. The elongated side sections are covered in pink and green vertical strips with gold beadwork and reeded gold paper braid. The backs have gold sprayed paper. Both are broken on the right section and missing on the left. Very delicate condition. Overall colours pink, gold and green.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
