Summary
Ornately decorated Indian festival decoration, in three separate sections. The top section appears to be made of plant stems or rushes, fashioned into a round piece and bowed. They are covered in blue velvet with a painted gold design with silver sequins attached, the design being on one side only. Suspended at either end is a bell-shaped pompom, and a disc, that also appear at the bottom. Two pompoms are present, made from a gold card covered with natural, green and pink pearls in vertical lines. The tassel ends are made of pink tissue paper. There is gold tinsel around the centre and red foil bases decorated with gold beads and sequins. The left side is not attached to the bottom, and the bottom pompom is missing. The elongated side sections are covered in pink and green vertical strips with gold beadwork and vertical strips of pearls on green foil. Both are broken on the right section and missing on the left. Very poor condition. Overall colours pink, gold and green.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
