Summary
Ornately decorated Indian festival decoration, in three separate sections. The top section appears to be made of plant stems or rushes, fashioned into a round piece and bowed. They are covered in green velvet with gold sequins sewn sparsely in a floral design, with a painted gold design between. Suspended at either end is a bell-shaped pompom, and a disc, that also appear at the bottom. All three pompoms are present, each having a deep pink base. The elongated side sections are covered in paper sprayed gold with strips of purple velvet sewn on, and decorated with gold and silver beaded embroidery. Strips of red paper foil are attached at the base, but hang free. There is also a strip of paper rolled, wrapped and sprayed gold, giving a beaded effect. This is attached top and bottom, but loose on the body. Very delicate condition. Overall colour effect is purple, gold and green.
Provenance
Purchased from the estate of the late Lord Wraxall with the assistance of the NHMF and donations from members and supporters.
