[i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742)]. Manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf of each vol: "James Gyles" (vols. 1, 3-5), "Jacobi Gylesii" (vol. 2). Manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf of vol. 5 in hand of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751): "NB. In this 5th vol. the sheets Xx. and Ccc ccc. are wrong folded; the two last leaves of each of them, being before the two first". Binding: seventeenth-century calf; double blind fillet border forming sprinkled outer panel, double blind fillet and blind dotted roll forming blank inner panel, with blind tulip cornerpiece stamps; gilt roll on board edges; blind fillets and roll decoration on spines, with vol. numbers stamped in gilt.
