Published on 7 May 1907, Chamber Music was James Joyce’s first published book. A collection of his poetry, it was reviewed favourably but did not sell particularly well. This copy was owned by Vita Sackville-West and is one of three Joyce books in her collection. She has signed and dated the book 1917, suggesting that she acquired it a decade after its publication, when she and Harold Nicolson were living at Long Barn (their home prior to Sissinghurst).
