Collection of sketches of large country houses and small towns in Yorkshire, part of the manuscript collection of the antiquary John Warburton which became part of the Lansdowne collection, eventually sold by the executors of the Marquis of Lansdowne in 1805. Sketches have manuscript captions, many originally in pencil, but inked over. The third leaf has been torn out. With a letter tipped in written to Col. Pennyman by M.L.Hoyle of the British Museum suggesting that this volume resembles Lansdowne Ms. 914, which contains similar sketches. With a cutting from the Journal and North Star, August 16, 1927, of Marske-by-the-Sea, a former Pennyman residence. Also laid in, two pieces of blotting paper, two brown envelopes dated 1946 and a large postcard.. Provenance: Nineteenth-century armorial bookplate, lettered: James Walker Sand Hutton.. Binding: Nineteenth-century full morocco; gold-tooled and lettered; marbled endpapers, gold edges.
