Provenance: Inscribed on pastedown: "Jas: Godwin Treasury Chambers 31st May 1791 In consequence of an address of the House of Commons to His Majestie, and of an examination made respecting the efficacy of a composition discover'd by Mr Wm Forsyth for curing injuries and defects in Trees, his Majesty has been pleased to grant a resward to Mr Forsyth for disclosing the method of making and using that composition ." Followed by a manuscript note signed "W. Forsyth London 17th 1803" with an amendment to the method described at length above. Inscribed on title page: "Maria Dobson the gift of Captain Godwin 1810".
