Armorial bookplate (between 1733 and 1754): Philip Lord Hardwicke Baron of Hardwicke in ye County of Gloucester [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754]. Binding: Seventeenth-century black goat over boards, gilt tooling on spine and board edges, double gilt fillet on covers with inner triple gilt fillet rectangular frame with inner and outer cornerpieces, gilt edges, remains of paper label on spine. Old water stains visible on endpapers and each end of the textblock.
