[Michael Lort (1725-1790), clergyman, Greek professor at Cambridge, and librarian of Lambeth Palace and to the Duke of Devonshire. His library was sold at Sotheby's in 1791]. [Philip Astle (d.1830) of Battersea Rise changed his surname to Hills on inheriting the manor of Colne Park, Essex, from the Hills family. He was the son of Thomas Astle (1755-1803) of Battersea Rise, noted book and manuscript collector.] Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on pastedown in Norris's hand: Colne Park sale 1940 10/= MS by P. Hills (Astle). H. [i.e. Hodgson's] 18/1 40 Lot 567. On flyleaf: Norris's pencil notes on Lort.
