Loosely inserted: clipping from dealer's catalogue, unrelated to provenance, and slip of Norris's pencil notes. Provenance: Inscribed on flyleaf: "H. Purefoy 1721", with ink note (in different hand?) "What Xtians may do to avoid persecution [page] 271". [Henry Purefoy (1697-1762), Sheriff of Buckinghamshire]. Bequeathed to the National Trust by Norman Norris (1917-1991). Inscribed on flyleaf in Norris's hand: Shalstone Manor. 17/5 '44.Đ4. Lacks frontis." [i.e. Shalstone Manor, Buckinghamshire, home of Purefoy family].. Binding: Seventeenth-century full mottled calf over boards; blind fillets; blind quarter fillet; sewn on five raised bands; no pastedowns.
