Badeley 1945: Courtauld-Thomson Dorneywood [with motto: Fortiter aut suaviter. i.e. Lord Courtauld-Thomson (1865-1954)]. Letter pasted onto flyleaf from "Mark G.S. Brooks's 11 May 1947" [son of Julian Sturgis] to "My Dear Courts'" regarding the possibility that this specially bound, though unusually unsigned, copy was a gift from the author to Kenneth Graham. Black ink stamp: The National Trust founded 1895. Binding: Cream publisher's cloth bound within nineteenth-century red polished calf over boards, gilt double fillet and inner dotted roll on covers, spine gilt tooled with urn device in compartments and five raised bands, dark blue label, gilt tooling to board edges and inners, gilt top edge.
