91 leaves . fol... Relates to the trial of John Digby, first earl of Bristol, in the House of Lords in 1626, and includes copies of letters from him dated from Sherborne. Wholly manuscript, in 17th-century hand. Some pages have red ruled borders; later pencil foliation (19th-century?). Second of two items in 19th-century wooden box, vellum-covered and with marbled paper edges and interior, and spine lettered: 'M.S.S. / Temp. Hen:7 Car:1'. Inside box is letter signed 'Peregrine F. Cust' and dated from Belton House, 1860, explaining that the two MSS in the box had been removed from no. 30 Hill Street London after the death of the Hon. Elizabeth Cust, and purchased by the guardians of [2nd] Earl Brownlow for the Belton Library. Slip of paper inside this item with notes for an index to it in 19th-century hand. Provenance: Bookplate: Belton House (earl's coronet & crests). Old Belton pressmark on pastedown: 117. Binding: Seventeenthetury vellum wrapper, sewn on four cords (remains of ties). Small vellum labels on front and spine with numbers '454' (deleted) and '128' respectively.
