Johnson" [i.e. from the library of Samuel Johnson, written by William Windham III (1750-1810), close friend of Johnson and who bought a number of Johnson's books at the sale of his library in 1785]. Manuscript capital letter "S" at head of front fly-leaf. Manuscript inventory[?] number "N.138." and black hexagonal ink-stamp with coat of arms on verso of front fly-leaf. Old Felbrigg shelfmark in ink: Y2. Binding: seventeenth-century parchment; sewn on two supports; intersecting double blind fillet border; fore-edges extended and folded-over; gold-tooled spine with floral stamp decoration (faded); red sheepskin[?] spine label (surface worn away exposing white underneath), gold-lettered; lozenge-shaped paper label at head of spine with manuscript shelfmarks (faded).
