[i.e. from the Latin school in Dordrecht (today, the Johan de Witt Gymnasium), the prize awarded to one Arnoldo à Dijck, and signed by, presumably, teachers at the school Willem Brantwijck van Blockland (1626-1696), Johannes Dibbets (1627-1709), and Hermanus Neuspitzer (1635-1689) -- cf. DBNL]. Manuscript date on rear pastedown: "Octob 25 1723". Binding: seventeenth-century school prize binding: gold-tooled vellum over boards; double gilt fillet border, with gilt acorn cornerpiece stamps; gilt centrepiece stamp: Minerva holding a book, at her side an owl perched on a book, within a laurel wreath, with legend 'Minerva Dordracena' [i.e. the Latin school in Dordrecht]; stubs of pairs of red and white cloth ties; gilt fillets and acorn stamps on spine, with gilt title on brown leather label.
