Orientation: Vertical Text Substrate: handmade laid paper Ink/Pigment: black printing and engraving ink Type: BOUND BOOK Binding Type: Inboard binding, raised supports Date of Binding: Contemporary Binder's Name: English End Leaves: Sewn single leaf hook within a single leaf outside hook, both of plain white laid paper, the outer full-sized leaf and stub pasted to the boards. Structure: English Edges: plain cut, sprinkled with a red pigment, now much worn Spine Lining: Nearly flat spine, slight joints and no linings. End Bands: Worked L-R 2x2 inplain uncoloured thread over cord cores. Bookmark: None Boards: Paper pulp boards, no back corening, all slips laced in - 3-hole lacing of slips 1 in the front board and slip 4 in the back board, 2-hole perpendicular lacing for slips 2 and3. Covering: Brown tanned calf, originally stainedwith a black pigment, the pattern now unclear. Tooling Spine: blind-tooled double fillets at head and tail of each panel Tooling Sides: blind-tooled double fillet border, with internal blind-tooled corner fleur-de-lys tool; gold-tooled roll on board edges. Furniture: None Enclosure: Ties Binding Notes: The name Gibson is written on the inner end of the tail edge of the back pastedown. A slip of paper is still just adhered to the head edge of the verso of the front flyleaf, probably the remains of a head-edge title flap.
