Provenance: manuscript letter on headed paper ('Burkitt House, Woodbridge') attached to front pastedown: "Mch 6. 1899 - To the Chief Eirenarch of the County of Suffolk - My Lord Marquis - I dare vouch you were never addressed by this title before. Nevertheless it is justly yours. The quaint little volume which I forward will explain this little conceit of mine. ... J. Lodere". Manuscript inscription on front fly-leaf: "Ex libris Joh[an]is Gough[?]. 1673". Manuscript inscription on title page: "Of all thy studies and intentions see / that god the alpha and omega bee". Manuscript inscription on p. 1: "Mr John Cowper [crossed-out] Gough his book Aprill ye 17th 1666".. Binding: Seventeenth-century calf binding; double blind fillet border, with two double blind fillets parallel to spine edge; gilt roll on board edges; blind fillets, and gilt title and date stamp on spine.

Part of the Bristol Collection. The house and contents were acquired through the National Land Fund and transferred to the National Trust in 1956
