Five-line initials on leaves [6r], [65r], [111r] supplied in blue; three-line initials on [23r], [50r], [86v], [118v], [119r], [129r] supplied in blue or red ([118v] in grey). Early manuscript signatures and numbering of gatherings in black ink on inner top corner of some leaves: A2-A6, b1-b3, c1-c4, d1-d4 on leaves [2r]-[6r], [11r]-[13r], [19r]-[22r], [27r]-[30r]. Manuscript foliation supplied in black ink on recto of leaves, number 36 repeated. Manuscript marginal annotations, manicules, and book headings or chapter numbers in upper margins throughout, mostly washed out. Pencil note in the hand of Cecil Clarabut (the National Trust's first Libraries Adviser) on verso of front fly-leaf: "imperfect (sh. have 188 ll., but? issued thus)". Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742). Manuscript code at foot of rear fly-leaf: "[illegible] fol. 144" (changed to 146). Binding: eighteenth-century plain parchment over boards; five sewing supports; gilt title lettered directly on spine: Ciceron Opera Philosop; bookblock edges stained blue; comb pattern marbled pastedowns.
