Initial on leaf a2 recto supplied in blue ink highlighted with silver illumination (oxidised), with red decoration and pen flourishing; all other initials supplied in blue or red ink, from N onwards with reserved white decoration; capital strokes supplied throughout in red. Infrequent manuscript annotations and interlinear notes throughout in a very small contemporary hand. Washed-out inscription on leaf a1. Provenance: library of Sir Richard Ellys (1682-1742) of Nocton, Lincolnshire. Binding: eighteenth-century full reddish-brown polished calf; sewn on four supports with six raised bands (two false bands); double gilt fillet border with gilt fleuron cornerpieces; gilt roll pattern on board edges; gold-tooled spine with circle and star motif in stamp and fillet panels, with gilt title and place/date on olive green (faded to brown) labels; red sprinkled bookblock edges; comb and swirl pattern marbled endpapers.
