Provenance: Eighteenth-century mantle Harpur armorial bookplate, with italic inscription: "Sr. Henry Harpur Bart" [i.e. Sir Henry Harpur, 5th Baronet, (1708-1748)]. Inscribed transversely on title page: "Calke Abbey Library John H Crewe[?]". Binding: Eighteenth-century blind panelled calf; triple blind fillet border; gilt tooling on spine, board edges and turn ins; seven raised bands; marbled endpapers; spine-label missing: Dr. Barrow's Works. Bookshoe; upper board allmost loose.

Transferred to the National Trust by the Treasury in lieu of CTT in 1985 with an endowment provided by the NHMF.
