Manuscript initial "M." on recto of vol. 1 front endleaf [i.e. catalogue code of John Mitchell (ca. 1685-1751), librarian to Ellys], continued "2. vol." with Mitchell's manuscript code at foot of leaf "ζ¹" [i.e. zeta¹ = Greek number 7¹]. Mis-pagination note by Mitchell on recto of vol. 2 front endleaf. Eighteenth-century(?) pencilled initials on first title page of each volume: "LH". Binding: eighteenth-century quarter bound marbled paper over boards and sheep leather spine; four raised bands with gilt framed title and volume number tooled directly on spine; no endbands; two supports laced in; pastedown and endleaves; uncut edges.
