Provenance: manuscript inscription on title page: Jeff: Gilbert [i.e. Sir Geoffrey Gilbert (1674-1726), Lord Chief Baron of the Court of Exchequer, whose library was sold at auction in Gray's Inn in 1728]. Armorial bookplate (after 1754): Philip, Earl of Hardwicke. [i.e. Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke (1690-1764), created Baron Hardwicke, 1733, and Earl of Hardwicke, 1754. Also used in books acquired by his successors]. Binding: Eighteenth-century sprinkled calf over boards, gilt spine tooling, double and triple blind fillets and cornerpieces on covers, blind tooling on board edges, red sprinkled edges. Old silverfish damage to leather on back cover.
